The Pond Behind the House

Dream Journal

This is one of the strangest dreams I have ever had, and what makes it even more unsettling is that I have seen it twice. The events felt so real that even after waking up, I could remember every detail. It began like an ordinary afternoon but slowly turned into something I can only describe as a nightmare.

I was outside my house playing badminton with my mom. The weather was calm, and we were laughing whenever one of us missed the shuttlecock. It felt like one of those peaceful evenings where nothing unusual could possibly happen.

A car suddenly pulled up near our house. It belonged to our neighbors. They looked around and asked, “Is everyone at home?”

“We thought they had gone out,” I replied.

As they were about to leave, they noticed the badminton rackets in our hands.

“Our son has been wanting to play. Can he join you?” one of them asked with a smile.

Before I could answer, everything around me seemed to blur. The street, the house, and even my mom disappeared as though someone had erased the entire scene.

The next moment, I found myself standing inside the home of a young woman. Somehow, she felt familiar, almost like a close friend. She was heavily pregnant and looked busy preparing for a journey.

“We have to leave for the village,” she told me. “There are rituals we must attend.”

Without questioning anything, I followed her.

The village looked untouched by time. Narrow mud paths stretched between old houses, and the silence felt heavier than the humid air. We eventually reached the home of an elderly couple who welcomed us warmly. They spoke very little, but their smiles carried a strange sadness that I couldn’t explain.

Behind their house lay a large pond. Its water was unusually still, almost like a mirror that refused to move. The trees surrounding it leaned toward the water as if they were hiding secrets beneath the surface.

As everyone became busy with the preparations, I stayed behind in the house. Something about the place felt unsettling. The walls seemed older than they should have been, and every corner carried an eerie silence.

Curious, I wandered toward the back of the house. Near the pond, half-hidden beneath overgrown grass, I noticed an old cloth bag. It looked forgotten, as though it had been lying there for years. I slowly stepped closer, my heart beating faster with every step.

Just as I reached out to inspect it, I heard footsteps.

Everyone had returned.

I quietly stepped away from the bag and joined the others, pretending that nothing had happened.

We sat together talking for a while. The elderly couple seemed calm, and the villagers slowly gathered outside as if waiting for something that everyone understood except me.

Without any warning, they all began walking toward the pond.

At first, I thought they were performing a ritual. But then one after another, they stepped into the water without hesitation.

The old couple entered first.

Soon, every villager followed.

Suddenly, horrifying screams echoed across the village. The peaceful pond erupted into chaos as people cried out in terror. One by one, they disappeared beneath the dark water. The screams continued until there was nothing left but silence.

Only three of us remained—the pregnant woman, a little boy, and me.

Frozen in fear, we stared at the pond, unable to move.

Then a voice echoed through the air. It wasn’t loud, but it sounded as though it came from everywhere at once.

“They have been taken by the spirit.”

The words hung in the silence.

No one spoke.

The pond became perfectly still again, as though nothing had ever happened. Yet the feeling that something was watching us from beneath the water only grew stronger.

The three of us stood there, terrified, knowing that whatever had taken the villagers had not disappeared.

It was still waiting.

And that was the moment I woke up.

Even after opening my eyes, the image of the silent pond stayed with me. The strange part is that this wasn’t the first time I had seen this dream. I had dreamed it before, almost exactly the same way. Somehow, that makes it even more haunting—as though the mysterious village and the pond are waiting for me to return once again.

A SECOND CHANCE OF LIFE

February 24, 2014. She came home exhausted, her heart heavy with a grief that felt inconsolable. It was the day she lost her will to live.

She stood on the terrace, gazing out at the city. From above, the streets were a beautiful tapestry of light beams from passing cars. “How beautiful the city looks at night,” she whispered, trying to ignore the harsh sounds of the traffic and the distant shouting of the crowds below. She had only ever wanted a simple life, but fate had left her hopeless after he passed away. After her parents died, he was her entire world. Now, she felt shattered, alone in the world except for their two-year-old son.

She thought back to how it all began—the “accidental” blind date. They had both been set up with other people. His date told him to look for a woman with long brown hair in a red dress; Her date told her to look for a man in a blue shirt and grey pants. By a stroke of luck, they were both wearing those exact outfits.

When he saw her, he walked over and sat down. They didn’t even ask for names at first; they just started talking. They shared stories, laughed, and realized their tastes were perfectly synced. It wasn’t until they both received phone calls from their actual dates that they realized the mistake. They exchanged contacts, and a few days later, they met again.

The evening air grew crisp as the tide began to retreat, leaving the sand cool beneath their feet. Above them, the sky was a masterpiece of gold and burning orange, the horizon glowing with the last warmth of the day.He stopped, turning to her with a look of steady devotion. As he sank to one knee in the damp sand, he held out a ring that caught the flickering light of the dying sun.

“I want to be your sanctuary,” he whispered. “Will you marry me?”

Her “yes” was a breath of pure relief. As they leaned into a passionate kiss, the cold sea breeze no longer mattered. For the first time since she had lost her parents, she wasn’t just standing on a shore—she was finally home.

Their marriage was filled with joy and silly, loving arguments. After three years, she became pregnant. He took care of her every need with such tenderness. They had a son and named him Casio.

But when Casio was only two, tragedy struck. On his way home from work, his car broke down and was struck by a truck. He died on the spot. When the hospital called, her world ended.

Tonight, sitting at her table with a bottle of pills, she was ready to give up. But then, she felt a small tug at her dress. It was Casio. He crawled toward her, pulling at her clothes for her to lift him up. When she looked into his sparkling eyes and saw him reacting to her tears, she stopped.

In that moment, she found her strength. She decided to live—for her son and for herself. She told herself that their son would make them proud, and that his father, watching from heaven, would finally be at peace.

Reimagine classic fairy tales in modern society

Hey everyone! How are you all doing?

Since my previous blog was all about fairy tales, I couldn’t stop thinking about them. So, here I am with another fun thought...

What if our favorite fairy tale characters lived in today’s world?

Would they still wait for magic? Would they still need a fairy godmother, a prince, or a magical mirror?

Probably not.

Let’s reimagine some classic fairy tales in the modern world.

Cinderella

We all know Cinderella

The kind-hearted girl who was treated like a maid in her own home. She spent her days cleaning, cooking, and obeying her cruel stepmother and stepsisters, while longing for love, freedom, and a life she deserved.

But what if Cinderella lived in 2026?

Things would be very different.

Instead of silently suffering, someone would probably notice the abuse. A neighbor, a teacher, or even a friend could report the situation. Child protection services and labor laws would step in. Her stepmother could face legal action for forcing her into unpaid labor and emotional abuse.

Cinderella wouldn’t need to wait for a fairy godmother or a magical pumpkin carriage.

She would finally get her freedom through justice, education, and the support of people who cared. Instead of searching for a prince, she might choose to build her own career, chase her dreams, and create a life on her own terms.

Because sometimes, the greatest happily ever after is finding your own independence.

Snow White

Now let’s talk about Snow White.

Her stepmother, the Evil Queen, became jealous simply because a magical mirror declared Snow White the fairest of them all. That jealousy led to lies, murder attempts, and Snow White running away into the forest.

But imagine Snow White in today’s digital world.

She’d probably be a popular influencer with millions of followers.

The moment the Queen tried to harm her, Snow White would expose everything on social media. Videos, and live streams would spread the truth within minutes. The Queen’s actions would become public, and authorities would investigate.

The magic mirror?

It would probably be replaced by social media filters and endless beauty standards. Instead of asking, “Who’s the fairest of them all?”, people would constantly compare likes, followers, and edited photos.

Perhaps the real lesson today isn’t about beauty at all. It’s about learning not to compare ourselves with others.

Fairy Tales, Rewritten

Modern life gives us something many fairy tale characters never had knowledge, rights, technology, and a voice.

Today’s heroes don’t always wear crowns or carry magic wands.

Sometimes they carry a phone, know the law, speak up for themselves, and ask for help.

Maybe fairy tales don’t need to be rewritten because they were wrong.

Maybe they need to be rewritten because the world has changed.

And honestly...

I think Cinderella would choose college over the castle.

Snow White would post a tell-all video.

And every princess would finally realize that saving themselves is the best happily ever after.

What do you think?

If your favorite fairy tale happened in today’s world, how do you think it would end? Let me know in the comments!

“Mistakes I made and what they taught me”

It wasn’t just a mistake; it became something I almost regret. Even now, it’s something I’ve never told anyone. The very first mistake I made was running away from my problems. If I hadn’t walked away from that one situation, my life might have turned out completely differently. That story - one I never expected might never have happened at all.Sometimes I wonder what life would have been like if I had faced it instead of avoiding it. But perhaps it was fate. Perhaps some things are meant to happen, no matter how much we wish they hadn’t.

Sometimes the mistake isn’t making the wrong move—it’s not making a move at all.Whether the outcome is good or bad, take the chance. If you fail, that’s okay. Failure teaches lessons that hesitation never will. What’s harder to live with is the constant thought of “What if?” that lingers when you never try. It’s better to fail after trying than to spend years wondering what could have happened if you had simply taken the first step.

One of the biggest mistakes I made was being too understanding.I understood every excuse, every situation, and every reason someone gave me, even when it left me hurting. I became so busy seeing things from other people’s perspectives that I forgot to acknowledge my own pain. The truth is, some people will expect endless understanding from you while giving none in return. They’ll want you to be patient with their struggles but won’t pause to consider how their actions affect you.

Being understanding isn’t a weakness. Ignoring your own feelings is.

I’ve learned that empathy should never come at the cost of self-respect.

THE CURATOR OF WHISPERS

Elara was a soft-spoken archivist who possessed a rare, quiet gift: whenever she touched an old object, she could hear the echoes of its history. It was a heavy blessing, one that usually kept her confined to the dust and silence of old libraries. However, her latest project required her to visit a sprawling, abandoned estate to catalog its forgotten contents.

While sorting through a drawer of a tarnished mahogany desk, her fingers brushed against an elegant, vintage fountain pen. Instantly, a wave of intense emotion crashed over her grief, fierce determination, and terror. The pen had belonged to Nyra Sehgal, a brilliant feminist author who had been brutally murdered years ago. Nyra was famous for her gripping mystery novels, which were secretly woven from real-world crimes.

Through the pen, Elara heard the painful symphony of Nyra’s past. When Nyra was just sixteen, her world shattered when her best friend, Amaira, became the victim of a horrific honor killing. The tragedy broke Nyra, but it also lit a fire inside her. Years later, as she was still struggling to heal, her traditional parents arranged a marriage for her without her consent. Refusing to let her life be stolen, Nyra fled her family home under the cover of night and caught a train to the city.

The city, however, was unforgiving. Nyra endured years of crushing poverty, endless rejection from publishers, and cruel public humiliation. She was on the brink of starvation when a small, independent publishing house finally took a chance on her. To Nyra, they were godsent, saving her from the brink of despair.

As her novels grew into massive nationwide successes, they also drew dangerous enemies. For years, Nyra received chilling anonymous threats. Yet, she fiercely refused police protection, believing that giving in to fear would silence her voice. She refused to back down, using her prose to dismantle the patriarchy and expose the deep-seated grudges men held against independent women—even those men who superficially pretended to support the feminist movement.

One such man was William. When they first met in the city, he was the picture of a loving, supportive boyfriend. But as Nyra’s fame grew, William’s mask slipped. Insecure and threatened by her success, he became rude, manipulative, and deeply controlling of her work. Recognizing the toxic trap, Nyra bravely cut the cords and ended the relationship.

Then came her final, most awaited novel: The Place for Animals. It was a dangerous book, explicitly designed to unmask the horrific, real-life crimes of a powerful politician, Minister Kabir Anand. But Nyra was betrayed from within her own circle. Nishita Rao, a fellow writer whose own career had been completely overshadowed by Nyra’s brilliance, allowed jealousy to consume her. Nishita stole a look at the draft and exposed the explosive script directly to the Minister.

Shortly after, the city was rocked by the news: Nyra Sehgal had been found brutally murdered in her own apartment. Her definitive final manuscript had vanished without a trace.

When the police investigation began, the detectives identified four primary suspects, each with a powerful motive:

The Minister (Kabir Anand):Desperate to bury the crimes exposed in her book.

The Ex-Boyfriend (William): Driven by rejection and a toxic, controlling rage.

The Radical Group:Extremists who hated her public crusade against the patriarchy.

The Fellow Writer (Nishita Rao): Consumed by professional envy and bitterness.

The case had grown cold over the years, the truth buried under political corruption and a lack of evidence. But standing in the dusty estate, holding the fountain pen, Elara could hear what the police had missed. Guided by the phantom whispers of Nyra’s voice, Elara’s eyes locked onto a false bottom in the very desk she was cataloging.

With trembling hands, she pried it open. Hidden inside were the missing pages-the final, secret chapters of The Place for Animals.

As Elara read the elegant script, tears welled in her eyes. Nyra had known she was running out of time. She had foreseen her own murder, and in a final act of brilliant defiance, she had cleverly woven the real names and roles of her killers into the climax of the story itself. It was an undeniable confession written from beyond the grave.

Armed with the missing manuscript and the undeniable proof of the conspiracy between Nishita Rao, William, and Minister Kabir Anand, Elara went to the authorities. The cold case was blown wide open, the perpetrators were brought to justice, and Nyra Sehgal’s voice finally achieved its ultimate triumph, echoing loudly through the halls of justice.

The Silent Shore

The moon is bright, the breeze is sweet,

As sand and water touch her feet.

Away from life and busy ways,

She thinks of all her younger days.

She missed the joy of simple things,

The magic that a childhood brings.

She longs for home, for friends and love,

Under the silver stars above.

Too many years were just a chore,

A routine life and nothing more.

But in this peace, she starts to feel

That life is soft, and life is real.

The Unfinished Warning

Ila was a college student who lived in the busy city of Nayarabad. She spent her time studying "dead" languages—languages that no one speaks anymore. For her summer break, she went back to her small hometown, Kalingapur.

In her village, there was a famous mountain cave. Everyone said it was a place of dark magic. The elders told a story about a "Hidden Letter" inside the cave. They warned that the letter carried a curse: if you start reading it but stop before the end, you and your family will die in a mysterious way.

Ila loved mysteries. She thought her skills could help her find the truth. Her mother cried and told her not to go, but Ila did not listen. She packed a small bag and started walking toward the mountain.

The sun was very hot, and the climb was difficult. When she finally reached the cave, the air felt freezing cold. She turned on her torch. The walls were covered in thick spider webs and grey dust. Deep in the back of the cave, she found an old wooden box half-buried in the dirt. She smashed the box with a heavy rock and pulled out a piece of old paper. She broke it open and found a letter titled:

Praemonitus

"Hanc epistulam legens, aut finem facies, aut tui peribunt."

She used her phone to translate the warning: "Reading this letter, either you will make an end, or your own people will perish." As she read on, Ila’s heart beat fast, but she kept reading.

The letter told the story of a King named Martanda from a place called Guptasthan. On the outside, the King looked kind and helpful. But in secret, he was a very bad man. He stole money from his poor citizens and was cruel to women.

One day, a traveler named Sadanand arrived. Sadanand was a magician. He gave the people a special potion that helped them see the truth. Once the people saw how evil the King really was, they became very angry. They dragged the King out of his palace and tied him to a tree. They hit him with stones to punish him for his crimes.

The King’s wife, Vichitra, and his son, Dushyant, were locked in a cage. They were treated badly because of the King’s sins. Everyone thought the King died that night, but a secret friend saved him. While hiding in the mountains, The King was filled with a terrible rage. He didn't just want his power back; he wanted the whole kingdom to disappear. He wrote this letter and put a curse on it. He wanted a mystery disease to kill everyone because they had chosen Sadanand over him.

When Ila finished the last line, she ran back to her village. She was shocked to see that people were already falling over and getting sick. The curse was moving through the village like a shadow!

She knew she had to destroy the letter immediately. She ran into the deep forest and tried to light a match. But the wind was blowing too hard, and the fire kept going out. In a hurry, she tried to break some dry branches to make a big fire. As she snapped a branch, a sharp piece of wood cut her finger deeply.

A drop of her red blood fell onto the letter.

As soon as the blood touched the ink, the paper burst into a bright flame. It burned until there was nothing left but ash. The wind stopped, and the air felt clean again. Without even knowing it, Ila had used her own blood to break the curse and save her people.
